When we took our places for lunch the programme for the coming year was brought up. There was a frank discussion of various harbours around the Solent and their suitability for our boats - is there time to have a Bar-B-Q on the sand at Langston between tides? - is there enough room for half a dozen Snappies in Ashlett creek? - can anyone still afford Beaulieu?
Suggestions became ever more ambitious as time went by and the combined level in our glasses fell. Had we considered a run down to Dartmouth? Some of the older sea dogs reminisced about Cherbourg, Guernsey and Alderney, then a newcomer mentioned Roscoff and Brittany. Thankfully lunch arrived before discussion on the relative merits of the Baltic and Azores was mooted. |
