After some necessary refreshment and the swapping of news, there was discussion of maintenace problems, the (non) availability of spares, and generally how close our respective vessels were to being ready for the season.

When we took our places for lunch the programme for the coming year was brought up. There was a frank discussion of various harbours around the Solent and their suitability for our boats - is there time to have a Bar-B-Q on the sand at Langston between tides? - is there enough room for half a dozen Snappies in Ashlett creek? - can anyone still afford Beaulieu?

Suggestions became ever more ambitious as time went by and the combined level in our glasses fell. Had we considered a run down to Dartmouth? Some of the older sea dogs reminisced about Cherbourg, Guernsey and Alderney, then a newcomer mentioned Roscoff and Brittany. Thankfully lunch arrived before discussion on the relative merits of the Baltic and Azores was mooted.

In the end, after an excellent lunch and much reference to the tide tables in the Almanac, a bit of pencilling in, rubbing out and pencilling in elsewhere and else-when, it was agreed (Vicky decided) that we should definitely pencil in Bembridge for the weekend 7th-8th June.

See you there !
